Well... where do I start? It's now been 8 years and 1 month since I launched my VDM (Virtual Designer Mall) with GWT. I had to think about what to write this time, as there has been so much that has happened but let me start with what's changed for my family and I.
I believe my last blog I spoke about how we had moved to Taiwan and just moved in to our newly renovated place with Heidi and the two boys. Today, the boys are now 4.5 and 6 years old and one of the biggest blessings that GWT has done for me personally, is allowing me to spend SOOOOO much time with my 2 angels. I never realized what being a dad does to you... how it changes your values... and how it makes you want to only provide the BEST OF THE BEST for your children. I cherish every single time I am able to get them changed in the morning, help brush their teeth, bring them to school, pick them up from school, take the boys swimming, or go to their favorite sand playground, or roller blade in our basement (I'll explain that new basement soon), do homework with them, go to Costco with them, EVERYTHING from the second they're off school I can spend so much time with them!
Last year was a BLAST when we took the kids for the first time to go to Florida Disney World! It was such an experience that we're already booked to go again Jan of 2016! Tickets, hotels, plane all booked and even I'M EXCITED! But yes, for me, it comes down to always providing the best life possible for Heidi and the 2 boys... thanks GWT! The coolest thing though is the attachment I have with my two boys. What happened was Rex and Leon, both of them, I mostly bottle fed them 95% of the time when they were babies. The reason being Heidi didn't have enough milk and I also wanted her to rest, so I was always feeding them all throughout the day. Because of that, I have this INSANE bond with my two boys. I feel their LOVE everyday and I can tell it's something special because I see how most of my friends and their kids bonds are a bit different.
One advice I give to people when it comes to time management with the family, as lots of people ask me, is to try to make a schedule for your family. So Heidi and I have certain days we spend together. Kids and I have certain times per day we spend together. My family I also have times we spend with them. But also explain to your family that you're also working on a business FOR them so you can spend more time with them in the future. I find setting out clear intentions helps set the proper expectations people have on you and can make life way easier.
So what happened since Taiwan? Well, we missed Toronto quite a bit so we actually ended up moving back. But our other house was being rented out so we started looking for another place. We had to rent in a nice condo (great with an indoor swimming pool for the kids), but after two months, we put in an offer and happily moved into another million dollar home. Was a detached home in Markham about 3000 square feet, and WOW was that exciting!!! I think the other thing was going from a 1000 square feet place in Taiwan with no backyard, to moving into a 3000 square feet home with double garage and backyard was just FUN!!! I think the best part of that house was the massive washroom, huge master bedroom, running space for the kids, playroom for the kids. and a nice big kitchen!
We also got the kids into Chinese school once a week, and while the kids were in school, gave Heidi and I even more time together. This actually led to our next property. What happened was Heidi and I kept going shopping during the boys Chinese school and we felt like we were just spending money on things because we were bored. On the drive home one day we passed by this neighborhood that had properties being built. We initially thought about having another investment property that could generate more cash flow as per Rich Dad Poor Dad.
The next day after looking at the model home, we ended up putting in an offer for this gorgeous not yet built 4000 square feet home with a 60 feet wide x 120 feet deep lot, twice the cost as the last one. AND....... we got IT!!! This was another chapter for Heidi and I that is just SO COOL! Being able to customize everything about the house from where the office room went, the kitchen, the waffle ceilings, the sunken panels, the coffered ceilings, the volume ceilings (I didn't know before there were so many types of ceilings), the fireplace, the marble floor, the Cambria counter tops, the Wolf and SubZero appliances, the Downsview Kitchens, the California closets, the stone backyard... WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!! And right now, I'm sitting in my kitchen writing this blog while Heidi is making some characters with yarn! So proud of this home! THANK YOU GWT!
As for the boys, they're now in the best and closest Montesorri school in Markham and they absolutely LOVE IT. Winter is coming soon and it's time to go back to Taiwan to escape the cold and we're so pumped to go back for a visit.
So I guess you're probably wondering what happened with GWT since then? Well, income as I've always told people with GWT is stable. But as per our CEO's saying "if you're not getting better, you're getting worse". The company since then has also launched the POSH line which absolutely took sales to a whole new level. POSH is a product that's gorgeous, with natural gemstones, that is super affordable. You see, in MLM, it's really for the middle income and lower income families who NEED extra income. The issue with other MLM's is that their products are too expensive and so if you managed to have someone get started, they unfortunately have a hard time promoting those products to their circle of family and friends (same income class usually).
Aside from the new AMAZING POSH line which I just placed an order today for more of it, was the launch of the FERI men's shoes and loafers, the FERI ladies high heels and flats, the FERI belts for men and women, and new designs in previous collections.
ANOTHER INSANE thing the company did was create the one and only worldwide 950 SILEDIUM! You see, every other company in the world has 925 sterling silver but what GWT did was create a higher purity silver at 950 but still made it hard enough to safely set stones! That's what is so unique with GWT is that they're constantly revolutionizing EVERYTHING! FERI expanded their tablet cases and phone cases, to launching the new POSH line for men, and the FERI MOSH Exotics line!!! But you know what's even more crazy, is they're not even close to being done. So much more on the way. FERI ties, FERI luggage's, FERI fragrances, FERI special print leather lines, FERI suits, FERI facial and make-up line!!!!! YES, FERI facial and make-up line!!!
As you can probably see, I'm super excited. And because of the new international IA Rebate shipping program, making it easier and less cost to ship globally, last June was a record month for me. Sales happening globally in 72 countries for me, my partner base also grew to 14,000+ people (again, results will vary), and I had a record month last June of 2014.

Now.. I don't know who is reading this blog... and what's your purpose of reading this blog, but I hope that I've been able to shed some more light in some fashion. If you have doubts, it usually lies in a few areas. But whatever the doubt, it can't be in this company if you actually do proper research. It might be doubt in yourself (usually the case). And all I'm here to say, is that we all started there. But know that you have the ability to change that if you choose to. And we can help guide you there if you reach out to us. And what I did want to say to close of this blog, is that whatever opinion you have of this company, whatever doubt you have, whatever fear or skepticism you have, don't just keep it to yourself and assume your thoughts are right. Don't just assume that by asking your spouse or parents or kids or friends that they know what's best for you in this business. What you SHOULD do is simply reach out to me with your fears, doubts, skepticism, or just plain simple questions, and let me give you proper information to allow you to make the right decision.
What I've learned in my past 12 years has costed me lots of time and money to learn. And for you to call me is FREE. Whether you're in my team or not, I want you to AT LEAST hear from someone who is
1) In the company,
2) Has had failures and success,
3) Has the proper information
4) Does not care if you join or not
5) Just wants you to have the right information
Well, I suppose my next blog might be next year again and... I CAN'T WAIT TO write another blog then!
To the billion,

Global Wealth Trade Corporation - My life 5 years 3 months later
Hello again to all of those who have been following my blogs from the day I joined GWT Corp (Global Wealth Trade Corporation) to now. Life, to say the least, has been INSANE. Insane… a new word that we've been using a lot at GWT with all the incredible and amazing things that have been happening in the company.
However, first things first. If you are someone whose looking for information, factual information, about whether or not Global Wealth Trade, or GWT, is a scam, pyramid scam, pyramid scheme, or ponzi scheme, then this is for you. With the power of the worldwide web, and so much information that anyone can post up online, it's sometimes hard to separate facts from opinion, and to really be able to answer the question "Is GWT a scam?". To assist you in determining whether "GWT is a scam", I've collected as much information as possible and put it on the page below. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet and people mentioning other companies that are 100% unrelated to GWT such as TTI (Treasure Traders), BIM (Business In Motion), Jewelway. Please note that GWT and the CEO of GWT, Ramin Mesgarlou, is completely unrelated to these other companies but a few people online have mistaken them and linked them together. But before you go through all of this, if one were to apply logic and reason, then knowing that GWT has been in operations now for 7 years, featured on the American Business Journal, Canadian Business Journal, Preferred Magazine, 2011 Luxury Designer of the Year by Viva Internationale, 3 appearances on Canadian Jeweller for the special 19K and 21K formulations, sponsors of the Toronto International Film Festival, 3 appearances on Regard Magazine, A+ rating on the BBB, FERI President Watch as Top 10 Masterpieces of Time , 3 appearances on Preferred Magazine, FERI appearance on The View, plus much more... the question should be "How can one even think that GWT is a scam?!". For if it really were, none of the above would have happened, and most scams are shut down by the Competition Bureau or FTC within months!
Here are some quick videos to give you a solid understanding of these luxury designer brand.

And now, the page with all the links you'll ever need to know.
http://ourgwt.com/ourblog/recommended-viewing/did-your-due-diligence/
My last blog was almost 3 years ago and a lot of people have been asking me to update this blog… so here I am again today, just flew into Taiwan 2 days ago, beautiful hot weather on the morning of Feb 1st of 2013, writing this blog.
It's incredible reading my own blog from 3 years ago and just thinking of all the changes that have happened since then. I last left off with our first son, Rex, being born and living in our hew home. Every day was an enjoyment as we spent a lot of time with Rex, time that I wished my dad had with me when I was younger. Go to the parks, theme parks, science centres, the zoo on a weekday afternoon where it's completely empty and it feels as if the places belong to you. By the way, I highly recommend the 'Your Baby Can Read' dvd's as well as the 'How Smart Is Your Baby' program with tall the bit flash cards and baby development programs if you're looking at having a baby. Oh, I also recommend catering in some very healthy Chinese food specially designed for pregnant woman after their pregnancy to help in their recovery. It's about $80 a day for the food but it's more food then one can eat… and usually I help her finish some of it off (of course with much added salt).
And when life couldn't be any better, God has His gifts and Heidi was yet again pregnant. One would imagine after the first child that there are no more surprises, but finding out that your wife is pregnant a second time is still quite the surprise and joy. As I believe I mentioned before, my wife is from Taiwan. 5 months into her pregnancy, she wanted to have our second child, Leon, born in Taiwan and have the pleasure of her family's presence. So within a month time, we just packed up our bags and flew to Taiwan. At the same time, Heidi had the idea of opening up a nail store since she loves getting her nails done. And we had just hired a nail store owner to personally coach Heidi in the nails business before we left for Taiwan. So just prior to Heidi delivering Leon, we had opened up our first nail store. That eventually led to a second nail store also in Taiwan.
What I love about Global Wealth Trade corporation is that it's a business that can be done internationally. I was extremely excited to be able to go to Taiwan to open up a brand new market. With all the training I received, I was able to go from not knowing anyone in Taiwan to having a team of about 100 plus people. All the meanwhile, I love real estate and we invested into 2 properties in the Hamilton area that still cash flow today (thank you Robert Kyosaki for your book 'Rich Dad Poor Dad'). I have a huge appreciation for this because in most other companies or opportunities, they are not international in every country. Their products may need approvals from local governments especially if they are consumed like vitamins, juices, weight loss supplements, or put on the face like make-up, etc... In GWT, every country already imports and exports our products and people can get paid onto their new GWT Debit Credit Visa cards, anywhere in the world.
I don't know if you've ever thought about just moving to a whole new country and starting a brand new life there. Taiwan felt like that. Really living there for 2 years now have given me such an incredible experience. One amazing accomplishment that's happened for me is that I was able to learn Mandarin and speak fluently now in Mandarin. By the way, if you ever want to learn a language, go move to the country of language origin and force yourself not to speak your native language, mine being English. You'll learn much faster!
Speaking of experiences, I was able to now experience and learn the skills required to build GWT into different parts in the world. My team of 5000 plus people now span from all over Canada, to the US, Taiwan, HK, Australia, Europe, Philippines, and more. I can honestly say that if someone is looking towards building a career in Network Marketing, MLM, Direct Sales, you name it, that they should really have a conversation with me. The conversation is not to hear me say what's all the amazing points about GWT, but rather to learn what to watch out for in other opportunities that majority of the people never see or think of or hear of. I can with 100% reason and logic explain to anyone why GWT makes a much smarter choice in choosing a part time business to have then any other company out there.
Ah, and there's more to our story so back to that. At the time we came to Taiwan, we were living with Heidi's parents and it was great to have that additional help and build up the family ties. After a year and a bit we had felt it was time to have our own place to live in and so did Heidi's parents. In fact, Heidi's parents had wanted us to live somewhere very close by, and on one of our regular trips to visit my parents back in Toronto, they had found the perfect place. So to keep a long story short, about a million dollars later we now have a newly renovated 1000 square foot place called home in Taiwan, and it's about a 2 minute walk from the in-laws place.
There's quite a lot more to the story of my life and my family's life but I'll leave out those small details for this blog. But if you really cared to grab a coffee, or have a Skype coffee, then feel free to contact me. I have my contact information at the bottom of this blog.
Now, here's the part that most people need to know. That part is how many INSANE changes that have also happened in Global Wealth Trade Corporation. I've learnt that for most people, the key reason why they may not partake in a part time business is due to lack of knowledge, or lack of belief, or both. Lack of knowledge is equivalent to fear and the more knowledge one gains of a particular subject, the less fear or risk one takes. Lastly, as one gains more knowledge their belief will naturally strengthen as well. For instance, my belief in this industry and company is 100% over 100% over 100% etc…
GWT has had so many INSANE improvements that I'll do my best to summarize to a quick few short points to give you an idea of where this company is going… as we're really just getting started! Now please note, this may get quite long because of so many incredible developments aside from things such as numerous website re-designs, back office enhancements, and product gallery enhancements. However, I find it key to list these things out because there are certain people who will be skeptical, may confuse pyramid schemes versus pyramid structures versus a wide range of things. By listing the below accolades and media I hope everyone can logically distinguish a world class designer company with a remarkable opportunity from those other scams that do exist and are usually shutdown within a year time.
On the GWT Media side, this list of celebrities who wear FERI just goes on and on. After sponsoring the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010 and 2011, it's almost like a snowball effect of media. Here's our Media page from the GWT website.
http://www.globalwealthtrade.com/rene/media_feri_celebrities.html?cntylng=eng_can
On the same page, is a list of our 'In The Press' appearances which include the Canadian Jeweller. After the Canadian Jeweller learned of our special 19K and 21K formulation, they wrote about us 3 times now and made comments such as 'FERI MOSH is Above All', and 'FERI MOSH is an unimaginable ultra luxury jewellery collection, the best of the best' and more. By the way, Canadian Jeweller is HUGE!!!
Regard Magazine, also known as Hollywood's designer magazine also featured us 3 times now and their celebrities wore FERI on the front page.
Preferred Magazine, a luxury magazine, also featured us 3 times now and in one of their magazines they wrote about the '10 Masterpieces of TIME', and alongside with Rolex, Montblanc, Patek Philippe, Chopard, and others… was FERI. In this magazine our FERI President, a 19K gold timepiece, made it into the top 10 in the world! And on the front page, was our FERI Toronto 19K watch!
Canadian Jeweller featured us.
Canadian Business Journal featured us.
American Business Journal featured us twice now.
Our Vice President of Product Development, Sanaz Hooman, was a featured speaker at the Woman of Wealth event and in their magazine.
We were also in Star Magazine with celebrities wearing FERI.
Viva Internationale awarded us the 2011 Luxury Designer of the Year award!
Successful Home Business featured us twice now as company of the month.
All of the above can be found on the Media link I wrote above.
Not quite sure what products we had when you last looked at us, but FERI now includes gorgeous handbags, wallets, purses, timepieces, tungsten, silver, and our special Plangsten line. This coming April during our annual convention will be the launch of our FERI gloves for men and women, belts for men and women, scarves, and additional items to our pre-existing items. And a HUGE special launch of a BRAND new line to our company called POSH by FERI!!! This company just gets more amazing day after day!!!
So once again, I need to take a moment to specially thank God. And to also thank our CEO and Founder Ramin Mesgarlou for having the vision, persistence, and heart to lead this company. A man whose been approached by the world's luxury malls to sell his FERI MOSH line and declines to give people like me, like you, and opportunity to reach our financial freedom goals.
And because of Ramin Mesgarlou, I was featured in two articles on BusinessForHome.

People wanted to get an update on my life, and I hope this has been an informative blog for you to read. Again I'm available at any time for questions, comments, or just for a nice conversation at rene.liaw@gmail.com. My Toronto cell is 647 746 3714. But while I'm in Taiwan like I am now, you can reach me at 647 247 9684.
You'll always be able to reach me because I'll always be alongside our CEO Ramin Mesgarlou in his vision and goals towards building the billion and changing as many lives as possible on the way. GWT is a 100% risk free opportunity and if you are wondering how that's possible, get in touch with me and I'd be happy to explain as I don't want this blog to become to long.
Again, thank you to everyone who has been following my blog and I'll most likely update this blog once a year going forward! We're only 12,000 plus people now and most of that growth was in the past year (with all the new developments) so can you imagine if you partner with us now, where you will be in 5 years? Most companies reach 250,000 people and we're on the way there.
Thank you.

Global Wealth Trade - My life 2 years 2 months later
Hello again to all of those who have been reading my blogs up till now. For a variety of reasons, I felt that it was yet again necessary to update my blog to share with you what's taken place now 2 years and 2 months since I've joined Global Wealth Trade.
It's the morning of December 31st, 2009, very quiet. I just picked up some catered healthy food for my wife Heidi whose just delivered a month ago my first child, Rex, born Nov 30, 2009 at 4:03am weighing in at 7 pounds 3 ounces. Since my last blog, you may be wondering what's taken place since then leading up to now with my life and Global Wealth Trade and for those of you who are curious, I'd love to share with you.
It's almost hard for me to find a place to start due to so many incredible changes in my life but here goes! Since my last blog, February of 2009, it's been about 10 months till now. I'd like to start by saying that I did stay with Global Wealth Trade despite "advice", "suggestions", "warnings" from people around me who either cared about me or who were one of those "toxic" people that you really should have stayed away from who think everything in life is a "scam". Even those who care about you unfortunately don't have the proper knowledge to give you proper "advice" at times. I also wanted to add here that like any business, it takes time to build a successful business... not 1 month, not 1 year. Most business fail within the first 2.5 years so for those of you who want to know what it takes to be successful in ANY business, I wanted to share with you that my game plan with Global Wealth Trade was I'd give it 5 years, and take the next 50 off... a very good deal to me.
During my last blog, I mentioned that I bought a brand new Honda Accord Coupe EX-L, 2008 and going from a 2001 Toyota Corolla, that was a big step-up for me. It was a fun 2 door car but unfortunately, didn't fulfill my needs as time went on.
Around March of this year, I've been dating with Heidi for about 1 year and 1 month and things were so amazing with her. I've been through many relationships that didn't work out, almost like bad businesses, but Heidi was simply different. I seriously could see a future with her. Without making this too long too sappy, I decided to propose to her and ask her for her hand in marriage. Now back then when I was working at TELUS, my budget for any ring would have been around $9,000 given the general rule of (3 months salary), and that was really stretching it for me! At Global Wealth Trade, I've shown Heidi several of the FERI MOSH 21K white gold rings and I knew the one that she absolutely loved the most... it's called the 'Ocean of Light'. Take a peek!!!
http://www.globalwealthtrade.com/products/displayItem.php?category=35&item=2797
Long story short, because of Global Wealth Trade, I was able to purchase this gorgeous ring for my Heidi at the members price, and what an amazing investment that was for me. I mentioned before that with GWT, our products are like investments because they never lose value, in fact, they gain value year after year. What floored me was that my price for the ring, gained an investment of 62.5% from my price, to the appraisal completed by the worlds largest international appraising company IGI, International Gemological Institute, http://www.igiworldwide.com. To give you an idea of how well known IGI is, when I insured the ring, my insurance company asked me if I had an appraisal for it and I said "yes, it's from IGI", and they instantly knew who they were and said "Fantastic, that's all you need!".
I won't get into the details of how I proposed to her (you can contact me if you're really curious), but long story short, Heidi said "yes" and we were engaged!
Heidi and I also wanted to have a bigger place to ourselves so we started shopping for a new home. We always loved the big open space concept homes but we wanted a home right along Highway 7 and so we started looking. We spoke with Patricia, a real estate agent whose also working with us in Global Wealth Trade, and she showed us several properties. Thankfully, there was one property right on Highway 7, right beside my favourite bubble tea restaurant, and it was close to what we were looking for. We didn't quite like the carpet floors condition, the gash in the kitchen black counter top, some of the windows sealant had worn off, and we just didn't like the black counter top in the kitchen... and in the bathrooms, but we knew we could fix it up exactly the way we wanted too.
Long story short, we put in an offer the exact same day, and the half a million dollar home was ours. We spent around $32,000 in renovations for maple hard wood floors, gorgeous white engineered granite counter tops in the kitchen, new windows, changed all the black counter tops :), imported gorgeous crystal lights from Egypt, 52" Sony Home Theatre system with wireless surround sound speakers, leather sofas, dining room table, kitchen table, etc... All of this, I never would have been able to do at the age of 29 with my old full time job.
And speaking of things that I would never do, I went back to Taiwan with Heidi about 4 times in the past 12 months. Have you ever wondered what it'd feel like to sit up in a non-economy seat? I decided to fly Elite Class with Heidi and all I have to say... is that I'll never fly back economy ever again, especially from Canada to Asia. These seats, could do anything! I'm about 6 feet tall and there was room to spare. I've never been able to sleep flat on a plan before unless I was able to luck out and get all 5-6 seats in the middle row. To be honest with you, in the 15 hour flight, I was hoping that the flight would never end! Real cutlery, real plates, smoked salmon appetizers, pate, wine after wine, I finally felt what it meant to fly properly. You just get treated differently.
Anyways, upon coming back from Taiwan early of this year, something incredible happened. Heidi was always sleepy in Taiwan and she'd often ask if I was tired as well. With the jet lag, I told her that I was also always sleepy. However, Heidi was often also heading to the toilet so she decided to do a check. The very next morning after we got back from Taiwan, Heidi wakes me up and shares the most incredible words from her mouth... "Baby, what if I'm pregnant?". So I responded half awake, now almost fully awake "We should talk about!", and she replies "Let's talk about it!".
So back to the 2-door Honda Accord Coupe EX-L, it just wasn't going to work and so one day, we decided to go to Lexus and take a look. Heidi and I have always loved the LEXUS IS250 AWD so we decided to go and take one for a spin. By the way, most car salesmen will ask you to take a spin because they know that most people put in a offer right after! :) So... we did exactly that. Now again, from a 2001 Toyota Corolla, to a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe, to the Luxury Navigation Lexus IS250 AWD... I know now what it feels like to drive a proper business car. I can't wait till I get my next car!
So putting things together, on Nov 30, 2009, our new baby boy, Rex Liaw, came home with us in our brand new Lexus, to our newly renovated home. Oh, did I mention that if you plan to have a baby, have a lot of money saved up to buy baby stuff? :) Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that Heidi recently also received her Permanent Residence just a few days ago. What that meant is that when she actually delivered Rex, she didn't have any coverage. If it wasn't for Global Wealth Trade, I would have been in some serious money fall. $1000 doctor fee, $2038 for the hospital room, $250 for the triage room, plus ultrasound, plus medical check-ups, plus x-rays, plus immigration costs, easily close to $10,000.
To put it all together, I wanted to thank the CEO and President of Global Wealth Trade, Ramin Mesgarlou, for having the vision and passion to start GWT. Ramin Mesgarlou is truly a remarkable man who heart and vision is for people like us who want change in our lives. It's no wonder why Networking Times featured Ramin Mesgarlou in a 6 page article as well as a Master Trainer in a Master Series and Article. Having someone like Ramin Mesgarlou as our CEO, someone whose been where we've been, and has become successful is exactly why GWT, Global Wealth Trade is now a leading Canadian Designer company, with patented gorgeous products that stand alone in the Designer industry, as an incredible asset and investment at the same time, and a business opportunity for the average individual to make 5 figures incomes part-time guaranteed with his Forensic Networker training.
This by far is not my last blog, as I now have new plans, new promises to fulfill for my life, for my wife Heidi, and for my new son Rex. I look forward to sharing with you the plans that I have in mind and how they will fulfill in my next blog. As always, if you'd like to get in touch with me or ask anything, please feel free to reach me at rene.liaw@gmail.com anytime.
Happy New Year to everyone! Make promises, not goals, for 2010 and I sincerely suggest to add Global Wealth Trade part-time to your life no matter how busy you are... because it's worth it!

A must read on MLM/Network Marketing versus pyramid scams
Hi folks,
I'm actually writing this blog that is a must read for anyone who is either part of a MLM/Network Marketing company or has been introduced to the concept. My blog below is not to advise one to join or not to join a Network Marketing/MLM company. My blog below is simply to educate people on what to look out for, and what one needs to understand before making a decision. I've been seeing a lot of recent discussions on the news and I wanted to educate the public to have more tools in their pockets to make safe and sound judgements. The reason this is a must read is because MLM/Network Marketing is actually a viable business and just like any business out there, one must become knowledgeable in the business they are operating and ensure that it is not illegal or a pyramid scam/scheme to save loss of money. Please note that there are over 58 million people worldwide who are currently in MLM/Network Marketing.
It was my last year at the University of Toronto, just after my internship I completed for 16 months at IBM (International Business Machines), when I was first introduced to the concept of Network Marketing/MLM. It was actually my sister and her boyfriend at the time, now happily married and a baby due next month, who introduced me to a Network Marketing company in the nutrition industry. I went to go see a presentation and to be absolutely honest, the idea of Network Marketing/MLM made sense to me. It was my first time and I didn't have any previous knowledge or notion at all towards MLM/Network Marketing.
One aspect of business that everyone should understand is how MLM/Network Marketing is 'supposed' to work. The idea of you purchasing products or a service directly from the manufacturing plant was an obvious no brainer for me. Why would I buy something from the public when I can buy it direct from the manufacturing company at a lesser price? Also, the idea of the company paying its distributors to do 'word of mouth' marketing also made sense to me. Instead of a company having so much costs in doing advertising, marketing, television commercials, magazines, and more, why not pay the distributors for doing all that work and have a win-win situation?
So I joined the company and started going to the trainings and when I started talking about the business with friends and family, I started getting comments or questions about whether or not this was a pyramid scheme or a scam? Again, this was my first time in this industry and so I was a bit taken back and decided to start doing a lot more research before I continued with the business. I started to become very familiar with the industry and what distinguished an MLM/Network Marketing company from a pyramid scheme. The definition also found on Wikipedia is that a pyramid scheme basically involves the exchange of money to the top where no product or service is being sold. With MLM/Network Marketing, there is a product or service being sold.
Rule #1 - Is what you are buying of any value?
This is where it's time for you to do your own research and due diligence. In the DSA (Direct Selling Association), www.dsa.org, there are over 10,000 companies there. Of this 10,000 companies, about 1,700 are in MLM/Network Marketing. Companies range from nutrition, telecommunications, household products, weight-loss programs, financial services, water-filtration, jewelry, travel and much much more. The first thing I would do is to check if whether or not the product or service being offered is of any value. Compare prices with outside sources. If for the 'exact' same product or service is found cheaper in the public, than this would raise a big red flag for me. A lot of nutrition companies have to justify their prices for their products because of extensive Research and Development for their special formulations, and patents, and scientific research, etc... Telecommunication companies are in a very competitive industry and in my previous experience, it's tough to beat big telecommunicaiton companies such as TELUS, Rogers, and Bell especially when they have bundling. I should know because I used to work at TELUS for 4.5 years. So again, check whether or not the product or service being sold is of any real value. Don't get sold by someone telling you that even though the price is the same or worse, that you should at least join and make money by referring other people and achieving financial freedom because that kind of model just does not sustain.
Rule #2 - What is the compensation plan structure used?
In MLM/Network Marketing, there are 5 regulated types of compensation plan types out there.
In short, they are Unilevel, Stairstep-breakaway, Matrix, Binary, and Hybrid. This is where you want to be able to figure out if the company you are looking at is one of these plans. If the person who sponsored you doesn't know, keep asking up the chain until you find someone that does.
Rule #3 - Is their a monthly consumption of a product or a service?
Most MLM/Network Marketing companies will have a product or service that you will need to purchase on a monthly basis to take part of the passive/residual income earning potentials. If a company requires you to spend a lot of money up front, and has no requirement for a monthly passive/residual income, than be very careful. If people are paid just for enrolling other people and you somehow move up in the structure, than be very careful that this may be pyramid scheme where the money from a new enrollment just flows up the structure and has no passive/residual income.
If you've completed Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3, so the prices you get are well worth while, the compensation plan type is one of the above, and their is a monthly contribution towards a product or service, than you should start feeling better about the company.
Rule #4 - Is the commissions earned heavier on sign-ups, or from monthly residuals?
The fact of the matter is that most companies have two choices to make when creating their compensation plan. A company can create a plan that pays heavy on new sign-ups and very little in residual/passive income, or the opposite where there is no commissions for new sign-ups and more on residual/passive income.
Most companies that have "Fast Start" programs typically do the first where they pay a lot on people signing up. The reason being is most likely because the product or service they are selling, has such a low mark-up that they can't afford to pay people a high residual income. Take for example a telecommunications company. If company ABC is offering you a long distance service or wireless phone plan that you can get for the exact same same price or almost the same price in the public, than how can that company possibly pay you a high residual/passive income? They can't. So what they do is that they will place a heavier cost on the sign-up, and distribute that sign-up costs to other members going up the chain. Which then means that people see quick up front money being made and feel good about themselves. However, after a period of time, the income becomes unstable, it's hard to advance 'ranks' to make it to the top rank, and most people end up dying out, lose their qualifications, lose their ranks and quit the business. So this ties into the next question which.
Rule #5 - Are you here to build it once and last for life or are you here to work forever?
The most amazing feature of MLM/Network Marketing when you first see a presentation is that you can work hard for 5 years, and take the next 50 off. This is ONLY true if the residual/passive income is high, and has longevitiy. The average in this industry is that 1 person in your team will pay you $1.00 of residual/passive income. So 1000 people in your team, will pay you $1000.00. With telecommunications, if you're lucky, 1 person will pay you 1/3 of that, so about 30 cents if you're lucky. One step that I always do is I calculate how much does one person in my team pay out in regards to residual/passive income. If you need to have an army of people in your team to make some decent residual income, than this is another big red flag for me. The reason is because you want to have a compensation plan where it's easier for everyone to earn residual income together. If everyone is actually getting great value for their money in the product or service, or is making money through commissions, than the passive income will most likely last for life.
Rule #6 - Don't get sold on having passion for the product.
When most people look at a MLM/Network Marketing company, they tend to feel that they have to have passion for the product. That they have to love the product so much that they can refer it to their friends. While this might make sense at first thought, unfortunately, it's completely untrue. As I mentioned before, MLM/Network Marketing is just like any other business. And when you first start a business, there are a few factors that one must look at.
1) Competitive Advantage
Does your company have a product or service that has a competitive advantage over the rest of the market? Competitive advantage can be in price, in quality of the product, or in patents and formulas. Can you answer why someone would want to buy from you?
2) Competitors
Of those 1,700 companies in the DSA, about 92% of them are in telecommunicaitons, household products, or nutrition. Are you selling a product that is competing with a lot of other members in different MLM/Network Marketing companies? Can you lose your people in your team to other companies?
3) Market Niche
How big is your target market and is their a niche in this market?
4) Barrier of Entry
What's stopping another company from creating the exact same product that you have and offering a better compensation plan of $1.00? If there is no stopping that, than you'll lose people in your team
If you can answer well to these questions, than you're off to a great start and you've probably done enough of your own due diligence.
Rule #6 - Can you lose your investment?
One thing that I always look at is what is the worse-case scenario? What if I invest my money, and I'm not able to build a team of people, what then? What is the absolute worse case scenario. In most cases, if you are getting a product or service that is of true value, and is cheaper than what you can get in the public, than that's not so bad. But, if you can find the exact product or service for the same price or cheaper in the public, than that's a pretty bad. The reason because you've just invested a few hundred dollars for a product or service that you could have gotten cheaper in the public.
Nothing hurts me more than to see people join a MLM/Network Marketing company and to not only lose their dreams, but to lose the value for their money.
I sincerely wish everyone the best of luck in their own endeavors. I know what it feels like to have invested several hundred to several thousands of dollars into a MLM/Network Marketing company and felt that I never received true value of my money. I hope that this blog has helped many people in making a wise and informed decision.
I guess what a few readers may be thinking is with all of my own due diligence down, how does my company Global Wealth Trade that I joined par up to the research and steps I mentioned above.
I would be more than happy to explain in more details to anyone my own personal research I've done and share that with you. Please simply email me at rene.liaw@gmail.com. In short, Global Wealth Trade through my research passes all the rules above and has the perfect formula for success. And best of all, no one ever loses their investment!
I'm actually writing this blog that is a must read for anyone who is either part of a MLM/Network Marketing company or has been introduced to the concept.

Global
To everyone,
My name is Rene Liaw and I'm writing this blog to share with you the events that have taken place in my life since my last blog I wrote back in August of 2008.
If you've had the opportunity of reading my previous post, than I'm very humbled to be able to share with you again the amazing events that have happened since August 2008, till today Feb 2009.
My last blog left off with Global Wealth Trade's amazing 2 designer lines FERI and FERI MOSH. It amazes me how our visionary and CEO/President of the company Ramin Mesgarlou alongside with our Vice President of Product Development Sanaz Hooman constantly drives the amazing new designs and creations of our gorgeous pieces. I remember last year, we've had a few requests to create a High-Tech Ceramic watch for women, in white colour. I also remember a few requests for more Tungsten watches for women and a few more Tungsten watches for men. For people with love for diamonds and our special formulated and patent-process 21K gold, I've also heard of a few requests for more of those designs. Well, in short, we now have all of those and more.
For a peek, you can see these on http://www.globalwealthtrade.com/products
I can't wait till the GWT 4th Annual Conference taking place this year Feb 27-28, 2009 in Niagara Falls, Ontario where even more new and amazing products will be revealed. I've luckily had the sneak preview of a few new developments just by being in the Toronto World Quarters and it simply just inspires and amazes me to know that we have a very special formulated, and patent-process 19K Signature Series. Global Wealth Trade is truly creating some amazing unique designs with a unique formulation that the world will certainly learn as time ticks.

Aside from the products, Global Wealth Trade has also changed the lives of my sister Monica Maltman, her husband Jamie Maltman, myself Rene Liaw, as well as many others. I'm so proud to say that Monica is currently 7.5 months pregnant which means that I'm almost an uncle. The thought of being an uncle is definitely a first for me, but I'm ready to step up and be the best uncle ever. Thanks to GWT, Monica doesn't have to go back to any full time job and instead, she can stay at home taking care of the baby 100%. In addition, Jamie can also spend all the time he needs with the baby at home now that he's also left his job as an IT Manager at a tax firm. Myself personally, I just quit my full time job at TELUS 2.5 weeks ago and to be honest, it felt strange not having to wake up super early to go to work.
Some of my coworkers actually asked if I was sure about leaving my job given the recent economy turn down and without a second thought, I was 100% sure. Global Wealth Trade is one of the very few businesses I know of that is a recession proof business. The reason being that they market a recession proof product... gold, diamonds, silver, platinum... things that go up in value over time. In addition, the High-Tech Ceramic watch, Tungsten 24K Gold Ring, and Tungsten Bracelet that I have look 100% exactly the same way since I bought them because of the hardness of the material, not a single stratch. I actually looked at my old stainless steel watch and I couldn't believe how many dents and stratches it had!
I think nowadays, with the bad economy, people are starting to realize that their once secure jobs aren't so secure anymore. I've luckily known several amazing financial advisors who actually advised that a portion of your portfolio should be within gold jewelry, and thankfully, that's what I did.
All in all, there have been so many amazing events that have taken place in my business, but as in any business, you've got to expect some bumps along the way. Sometimes people ask me how was I able to be so successful, and my answer is quite simple. Be coachable, stay focussed, expect to have bad days, and be grateful for what you have. As with so many unstable investments nowadays, companies like Nortel or Enron where my own father lost money buying stocks, and people talking about a scam here and there or scams everywhere, everyone is cautious about where to invest or save their money. Again and again, I have to thank our GWT Corporate team of Ramin Mesgarlou, Osman Nur, Sanaz Hooman, and Oliver Koncz for constantly taking the time to educate everyone in our company of the amazing benefits of this company. They've proven time and time again that with GWT, ones investments always hold their value over time.
It's truly a change in my life and when I look back a year ago, I would never have imagined that I would have quit my job. Although I studied computer science at the University of Toronto and graduated with a specialist degree in Software Engineering, I haven't let those skills die out either.
As a hobby on the side, I actually compare compensation plans of companies to GWT's. I've somewhat become a master in understanding compensation plans, and the biggest issues with different structures. If you've ever wondered about compensation plans, and wanted to learn why you weren't making any money before, or why your earnings dropped in the end... and you want to know the real reason why, please feel free to contact me at rene.liaw@gmail.com.
Also, my sister, her husband, and myself decided to create a website dedicated to our team and supporting our team with whatever questions they may have in regards to anything with the business, so also please feel free to take a look at www.ourgwt.com.

Global Wealth Trade
To everyone,
My name is Rene Liaw and I am writing this blog to share with you the series of events that have taken place in my life over the past 10 months and how Global Wealth Trade has played a signicant role in my life during this time.
I was introduced to Global Wealth Trade by my sister, and business partner, Monica Maltman who is happily married to my brother-in-law and business partner Jamie Maltman. It's truly fate that has lead the three of us to where we are today.
Monica first met Jamie where we all studied together at the University of Toronto at the St. George campus. Monica, Jamie and I all studied computer science while Jamie also studied Chinese (that was a big plus when he asked my sister for her hand in marriage lol). It's been quite a journey since I graduated 4 years ago as I started working at TELUS as a Programmer Analyst Level 1. Since then, I've moved up the corporate ladder somewhat to Programmer Analyst Level 3, and now shy of receiving my System Analyst title. I just received my promotion 2 weeks ago.
I've personally always wanted something on the side which led me to starting up a food catering company on my own called Bentolicious, and then on to a Real Estate Investment company called Testudo Ventures with Monica and Jamie. We along with several investors bought several properties out west in Edmonton, Alberta, which was an amazing success as we doubled to tripled our investors ROI. We also did a few land deals as well as apartments. However, with all the real estate, we still weren't able to make enough passively or residually to allow any of us to leave our jobs... so we were all still looking. I've always had a goal that by the age of 30, I would make enough residually and passively to leave my day job.
This year, I will be turning 28 on October 15. As I was mentioning, my sister Monica introduced me to this company last year on October 27, 2007. Monica initially went to see a presentation on Global Wealth Trade to basically advise friends of Jamie why they shouldn't join. Long story short, Monica ended up loving the jewelry (our relatives own jewelry chains in Asia), thought the compensation plan was incredible, and had great long talks with the Global Wealth Trade corporate team including the CEO Ramin Mesgarlou, EVP Osman Nur, VP Oliver Koncz, and the World Director Sanaz Hooman. Monica became a member that very day.
Monica came home that night and came to my room while I was busy chatting on MSN. She sat down on the corner of my bed and started a conversation with me and asked "Rene, do you like jewelry?". At that point in time, I had a bad feeling that Monica had "joined one of those companies" yet at the same time, I knew Monica well enough as a person who makes only well educated decisions... she did graduate with Honours by the way. In short, I told her "No." and she said "Oh ok". But as any good sister is, she had told Jamie and I that she had joined this company and that she didn't need our help or anything, but just wanted us to see it so that we knew what she was doing.
Looking back now, it's hilarious because Monica actually tried to show me the slides that came with her briefcase and only soon after did I find out that she actually dropped the briefcase and the slides were all out of order! Anyhow, Jamie and I went to Global Wealth Trade's head office in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Because we've seen a few of these companies before, we had requested only to see the compensation plan. Upon arriving, the World Director Sanaz Hooman walked us through one jewelry display case they had back then, which has now grown to over 9 displays. In the short past 8 months, Global Wealth Trade has also officially as of January 2008 become a Designer Jewelry company featuring exclusive designs collection FERI and FERI MOSH.
Next, we were introduced to the Executive Vice President who started Global Wealth Trade with the CEO and President Ramin Mesgarlou. Jamie, Monica and myself coming from a Computer Science background knew our numbers and binary systems and as Osman was explaining the compensation plan, Jamie and I kept asking question after question and the more we asked, the bigger our eyes grew. We have never, and till this date, after comparing compensation plan after compensation plan seen anything that could even come close to what this company has created... simply because no one else can.
We arrived at 7:30pm and after 3 hours of drilling the EVP on the compensation plan and company, we had asked if we could have the boardroom to just Monica, Jamie and myself. I still remember that night as if it was yesterday as we all shared our excitement like little kids while trying to keep our composure in front of the corporate team.
But it gets better. After we had collected our thoughts, we had the pleasure of meeting the visionary and founder, the CEO and President of Global Wealth Trade, Ramin Mesgarlou. We didn't leave until 5:00am the next morning as we had even more questions about the future direction and roadmap of the company. The one key aspect that Jamie, Monica and I needed to know was that we were not involving ourselves with a company that would just start and close shop when they reached their millions.
After almost 10 hours there straight and pizza being ordered for us, we happily joined Global Wealth Trade as Platinum members.
But it gets better. After developing not only a strong partnership with Global Wealth Trade, but also friendship with everyone from Ramin Mesgarlou, Sanaz Hooman, and Nenad Calma (CTO), we have since then became Founding Members of the company.
Like any investor, I have had my initial concerns through my course with Global Wealth Trade, mainly because the official launch, in Toronto, was just before I became a member. I knew of the next 10 year roadmap and was anxious to see how those plans unveiled themselves. As an investor in real estate, I've always been taught to always do your due diligence to make sure that whatever you're doing is not a scam, pyramid scheme, or anything illegal of any sort. I've personally invested well over $25,000 in real estate and to invest a large chunk of money into Global Wealth Trade to become a Founding Member, was the best investment decision I've made.
10 months later, now August 8, 2008, the loan I took out from the bank to invest into becoming a Founding Member has already been paid off from the earnings I've made from the business. Now it's not unusual that there are a few people in this world who can make tens of thousands of dollars in a network marketing company. We've all heard of those top income earners who have been able to quit their jobs and live the life that most people dream of.
What most people don't know is that a large number of these people have been paid to do what they do, or given a large organization to start with. Now what IS unusual, is that I am no business graduate from Yale or Harvard, nor was I paid or given an organization to start with, as I am simply a programmer at TELUS, although not for long. I've worked here for 4 years ever since I graduated, and had a few promotions (one without a raise by the way). What is also unusual in this industry is that last month, I earned around $14,000 doing this part time. What's even MORE unusual is that of that $14,000, $7,000 of it is the pure residual passive income portion... and it gets better. For that $7,000 passive income, I have just over 500 people in my organization. My point is this... for any other company to pay that type of residual income to their members, that person must have an army of people.
So what makes me being in this business more successful than any of the other businesses in the past? Knowledge, but not any kind of knowledge, useful knowledge. Our CEO/President Ramin Mesgarlou has been in this industry for 18 years. He's become the top income earner in 4 different companies, built teams of over 30,000 people in 30 countries, and became financially free at the age of 25. It's no luck that he did it 4 times over, it's experience and knowledge. I have never seen a CEO/President of any company spend the time and patience with each and every member of the company the way Ramin does. Furthermore, we are fortunate enough to have the knowledge and experience that Ramin has made available to everyone. He is truly a visionaire and the company that he has created, Global Wealth Trade, has revolutionized the industry. There is simply no one else in this world, that can do or create what Ramin Mesgarlou has in Global Wealth Tarde.
Sanaz Hooman, our World Director, was also one of the top income earners in her previous company. Sanaz, also from a distributor background is available to everyone and anyone and when I first started this business, she was the one who was also there to support and coach me. Like myself and many others that followed, have all benefitted from the teachings and coachings of Ramin, Osman, Sanaz and Oliver.
So today, after 10 months of being with Global Wealth Trade, my sister has quit her job as a team lead from IBM Software Lab. Jamie and I will also be looking at doing the same thing very shortly. I'm driving a new car, the Honda Accord Coupe 2008 EX-L, and we've bought a new $500,000 home on Bayview and Highway 7. It's no luck that we've been able to accomplish what we have, it's knowledge, and I also would be more than happy to share this knowledge with anyone.
Email: rene.liaw@gmail.com
I can't thank enough the time and patience that Ramin Mesgarlou, Sanaz Hooman, and Nenad Calma has given to us and every single person in the company and people analyzing our company to see if this is an opportunity right for them.
I also can't wait for the next release of our FERI for Men, FERI for Women, and FERI MOSH pieces. I also can't wait to go to Taiwan and Hong Kong in 2 days to bring this business there. The official launch was last year October 2007, 500 people back then, and already we have close to 2500 people this date. The year of international expansion has definitely started this year and soon, the world will know FERI and FERI MOSH.
